“Sankofa” in the local Ashanti language tranlates ‘go back and get it’. It is one of two symbols used to represent the importance of learning from the past and sticking to the good things in one’s culture and history. It comes from Ghana where such symbols are used to express traditional beliefs and philosophy, among others.
