kente cloth from Ghana. This is an authentic handwoven ethnic cotton fabric. Very nice indeed.
Women in Ghana make them into stylish outfits for festive occasions such as traditional weddings (some use it for their church weddings too), and many other important social gatherings.
In many parts of the country kente forms part of a girls’ dowry
100% cotton, made my local maker, this is an authentic artisan’s fabric, not a mass-produced machine print
weave quality is excellent and the fabric feels quite soft. Should be easy to work with.
one large piece, 64 x 39 inches
.
They can be used for other items as well; see additional photos for ideas
The edge is uneven and I have added close-up photos. While you may not want to use it as a shoulder wrap, it is perfectly usable in other projects
Each is made up of strips sewn together.
“Kente” in the local language means woven cloth
as these are large pieces they can be made into other items of clothing such as jackets, or skirts, for example
other possible uses: some use them as throws, or collector’s item, or wall hanging, etc
Best known of all Ghanaian and perhaps all African textiles
