Adinkra brass pendant, with beautiful detail, from Ashanti in Ghana

symbold of unity and democracy

handmade in Ghana by local artisans using the ancient ‘lost wax’ method

52mm long, including the bail

4-5mm hole inside the bail

about 40mm wide

they aren’t an even gold colour but have some coppery patches too

dimensions are approximate and small variations in size and colour occur due to hand-crafting.  There are some imperfections too

The design is funfuntu denkyemfunefu (siamese crocodiles) – a symbol of unity and democracy. It is a reminder that tribalism -( by extension, racism?) – and infighting is harmful to everyone. It comes from Ghana where such symbols are used to express traditional beliefs and philosophy, among others.
